Montgomery County honors community volunteers, gives $10,000 opioid-prevention check and awards deputies for lifesaving rescue

At its Sept. 15 meeting the Montgomery County Fiscal Court honored longtime volunteer Anne Ballard with a lifetime ambassador proclamation, presented a $10,000 opioid-prevention check to New Song Counseling’s Kathy Turner and Sheriff David Charles presented lifesaving awards to three deputies for a Sept. 5 rescue.
The Montgomery County Fiscal Court used part of its Sept. 15 agenda to present honors and community support checks.
Mayor Al read a certificate of excellence recognizing Anne Ballard for long service to the community; representatives of the county’s parks and recreation board then presented a proclamation naming Ballard the board’s first-ever lifetime ambassador. "She has exemplified... tireless advocacy, innovative programming and leadership within the parks and recreation board," the proclamation read. Ballard accepted the recognition and attendees applauded.
Court members also presented a $10,000 check from county opioid-related funds to Kathy Turner of New Song Counseling to support counseling or recovery work, and asked Turner to keep the county updated on how the funds are used.
Sheriff David Charles recognized three deputies for a Sept. 5 rescue on a local overpass in which a woman was pulled to safety. The sheriff recounted that Deputy Pervis (the trainee’s field-training officer was present), Deputy Cops and Deputy Grass worked together to pull the woman back from the edge and "saved her life without a doubt," he said, as he presented lifesaving medals to the deputies.
Those recognitions and awards were presented during the citizen-presentation portion of the agenda and were accompanied by certificates, plaques and applause; no formal county policy actions were taken in relation to the presentations.
