County proclaims Gamma Theta Omega anniversary day and November lung cancer screening awareness month

The proclamation recognizes the chapter’s community programs and marks a ceremonial observance on Dec. 7 to honor the chapter’s history. "The board declared December 7th as Gamma Theta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha 85th anniversary day celebration," Katie said.
In a separate proclamation, commissioners designated November as lung cancer screening awareness month and urged residents to pursue early detection. Katie noted that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women in the United States and said the county encourages screening and efforts to provide funding for lung cancer research.
Those proclamations are ceremonial actions and do not themselves create new county programs or funding obligations. The county communications office said the declarations are intended to raise public awareness and recognize community organizations and health campaigns.
The county included the ceremonial items in a broader meeting recap that also covered infrastructure, disaster recovery funding, arts‑center planning and public safety staffing.
