At the 10:30 session, Matt Kirby delivered a workman's compensation update, saying Lincoln County participates in a performance-based model with Montana State Fund and that the county’s experience modification factor placed it well below the state average. Kirby said last year’s dividend was 27% of the county’s 2023 premium and that the current dividend equals approximately $30,251 from the 2024 premium. “That’s money that goes right back to Lincoln County,” he said.
Commissioners and staff thanked county employees and members of the safety committee — named in the discussion as Karina, Boyd, Nikki and Dallas — for their work in maintaining safe practices, which officials said helped reduce premiums and secure dividends. The board noted an established safety fund (previously populated at about $40,000) is used for safety committee expenses and that remaining dividend funds are returned to the general fund unless allocated otherwise.
No formal budget reallocation was decided during the update; commissioners said they intend to use similar safety investments going forward.
