Board approves multiple renewals, grants and personnel additions including $2M 21st Century continuation award

At its Nov. 19 meeting, the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees approved a series of contract renewals, grant awards and personnel and project authorizations during the consent and business portions of the agenda.
The board approved renewal of an on‑site clinic contract (CSP #20 p‑32 LP) at a listed cost of $792,000 to be paid from the health fund; renewal of the employee assistance program (CSP #2020 p‑50 LP) at a listed cost of $9,780; and contracts related to stop‑loss and ASO medical services for the district’s self‑funded health plan. Trustees also approved the 2024–25 21st Century Community Learning Centers cycle 12 year‑two continuation grant award in the amount of $2,000,000 and a Harris County Department of Education 'case for kids' partnership grant for Frager Elementary in the amount of $30,000.
Board members approved two additional support counselor positions funded through the school‑based Mental Health Service Grant to expand counseling services in schools. The Grants Department, presented by Olivia Smith, said the department had brought in roughly $2.6 million since August and nearly $5 million in the most recently completed year, and described partnerships ranging from federal agencies to local funders and donorschoose.org projects that support classroom resources and mental‑health services.
The board also approved multiple bond program allowance expenditure authorizations and change orders across 2017 and 2022 bond projects (CTE classroom and lab improvements, Transportation Center replacement, Williams Elementary replacement, HVAC testing and commissioning, material testing services). Each consent or contract item was moved, seconded and recorded as approved by the board.
When trustees discussed usage and reach for the employee assistance program, staff said about 159 employees engaged with services in October and roughly 560 employees engaged each quarter across the year, including financial and relationship resources and counseling.
