George Kazanis, representing the Texas Association of School Boards, briefed trustees on the superintendent search timeline and the role of community input in shaping candidate profiles.
"We're looking to keep this application period open ... January the 27th," Kazanis said. He described planned community forums in December and January, an online survey and outreach to stakeholder groups. Kazanis said the board will review applications in closed session after the deadline, conduct an initial round of interviews in mid/late February, select finalists for a second, more informal round (including opportunities to meet families and host receptions), and aim to name a "lone finalist" around the first week of March. He reminded the board of a state-required 21‑day waiting period between naming a lone finalist and voting on a hire while general counsel finalizes the contract.
Kazanis said TASB will assist the board with candidate recruitment, building a candidate profile (professional and personal characteristics desired) and drafting interview probes. Trustees and community members will be invited to participate in public input sessions and an online survey to shape the profile used for recruiting and vetting candidates.
No names or finalists were announced at the meeting; Kazanis said the process is confidential until a lone finalist is named.
