Daniels County approves $262,800 construction agreement for new container site

Daniels County commissioners voted to approve a construction agreement for a new landfill container site after the contractor revised the bid to remove road and gravel items.

The board accepted the contractor’s revised price (documented in the contract attachment as about $262,800 after deducting road‑building and pit‑run gravel line items). Commissioners noted the county, not the contractor, will supply pit‑run gravel and perform roadwork associated with site access. The contract retains mobilization, insurance and concrete work items under the contractor’s scope and sets a start date in mid‑July with roughly 30 working days of active work within a 90‑day contract window.

County staff and the contractor discussed technical details including footing and wall pours, rebar scheduling, prefabricated gates (each gate weighs about 294 pounds) and payment timing. The contractor said footings could be poured within days of mobilization, with wall pours and slab pours following the concrete‑testing schedule; completion was estimated in mid‑August if curing results and deliveries proceed as planned.

Commissioners asked the road department to coordinate delivery and placement of pit‑run gravel during the contractor’s work so material is placed incrementally rather than stockpiled. Payment timing was clarified: the contractor should submit pay estimates keyed to completed work; the county’s next claims/payment cycle was discussed and staff gave invoice deadlines to allow payment at the August 6 claims run.

The motion to approve the agreement was made and seconded on the record; the board voted in favor and the agreement will be executed and attested by county staff.
