Kendall County commissioners voted to reclassify the health‑department sanitarian administrator to a higher pay grade after the compensation committee recommended a lesser change.
County officials explained the reclassification was prompted by the retirement of the incumbent and a rewritten job description that split a prior combined role into an administrator and subordinate position. Commissioner Chapman and others argued that a larger grade separation between supervisor and subordinate avoids problems when promoting staff; the compensation committee had recommended grade 14, but the court amended the motion to grade 15.
County HR and finance staff said the budget can absorb the change for the remainder of the fiscal year and reminded the court that exemptions and pay steps allow some flexibility when hiring an exempt administrator.
The motion to adopt grade 15 for the new sanitarian administrator position passed 4‑1 (Commissioner Region opposed).
