Court approves transfer of truck-sale proceeds to Precinct 3 for boom mower

Newton County Commissioners Court approved transferring $129,970 from the proceeds of a sold mechanics truck into Precinct 3 fund 023681649 to purchase or pay off a boom mower.

The discussion reviewed the sale accounting. Commissioners said the truck sold for about $160,000, an outstanding note of $142,000 was repaid to the roads fund, and the remaining proceeds were being allocated. The motion asked to allocate $129,970 to Precinct 3 to address an existing mower note; speakers clarified that $126,000 would payoff one existing obligation and discussed whether the mechanics-truck proceeds should be divided among precincts or used to retire a single piece of equipment’s debt.

Several commissioners urged a formal agreement on shared-equipment purchases and disposition, recommending a standing policy or periodic review so precincts understand how proceeds are returned to shared equipment pools. One commissioner said they were willing to forgo a share to help a fellow precinct; others asked staff to create a clear process for returning proceeds when shared equipment is sold.

A motion to transfer the funds was made and seconded and passed by voice vote.
