Paul McKetchan, identified in the meeting as the new CEO of the hospital group, described a phased reopening plan that starts with emergency services, lab and imaging, and later phases that could include orthopedic and cardiology services and potentially OB/GYN depending on community need and funding. "We have raised money to get ER going first," McKetchan said, and he added the group plans to provide imaging services that could include an MRI, saying the facility could serve the Tri‑County area.
Board members asked about staffing and transfer agreements; McKetchan said the hospital is securing qualified physicians and will maintain transfer relationships with higher‑level centers such as Kingwood (HCA) and Memorial Hermann for the most complex cases. Board member Brent McWaters moved to approve the grant and the variance at 50% participation; President Chuck Thompson indicated assent and staff clarified the award as a grant not to exceed $44,400.
Board comments emphasized local economic and service benefits of restoring the hospital building and its potential to draw additional investment. Staff recorded the grant as a reimbursement for eligible project expenses across signage, façade and mural categories and noted some presented expenses exceeded category maximums, which factored into the variance request.
