District 300 board approves public display of K–8 specialized math materials

Superintendent Dr. Martina Smith and district curriculum staff asked the board to approve a 30‑day public display period from Feb. 11 through March 12, 2026, so community members can review the recommended materials. The administration recommended “McGraill Number Worlds” for K–8 specialized instruction and “HMH Math 180” for grades 3–8 intervention courses, and said both products include English and Spanish resources and digital reporting features.
The display approval procedure will allow members of the public to request digital access through the district central office front desk during business hours. The administration said it will return to the board at the March 24 meeting to seek formal adoption and a purchase decision for implementation in the 2026–27 school year.
In presenting the materials, district staff said the review was conducted by a district review team, the technology team, and teacher teams that used scoring rubrics and provided strengths/opportunities feedback. The presenter described Number Worlds as aligning with a concrete–representational–abstract instructional model and praised its small‑group structure and home communication tools; Math 180 was described as offering real‑world connections, immediate digital feedback and supports for flexible grouping.
The motion to approve the public display was moved, seconded and approved by roll call vote 7–0.
Next steps: the materials will be publicly available for 30 days, the district will provide access modes and contact information on d300.org, and the board will consider final adoption on March 24, 2026.
