Kendall County extends outdoor burn ban amid severe drought conditions

The Kendall County Commissioner's Court voted unanimously on Jan. 13 to extend an outdoor burning prohibition for up to 90 days, citing elevated drought conditions and high-wind forecasts.
Assistant deputy fire marshal Juan briefed the court on the county’s fire-risk metrics, saying drought-index values had risen and that a cold front was expected to bring high winds that could spread fires. “It will be our office’s recommendation to continue the burn ban,” Juan said during the meeting.
County Judge Shane Stellarzic moved to adopt Order O-20250113-1, which the court approved 4–0. Paula, the clerk, called the vote. The order keeps outdoor burning restricted in unincorporated areas where conditions could create a public-safety hazard.
The court said the extension is a preventative step to reduce wildfire risk during dry, windy weather. Officials urged residents to follow the order’s restrictions and to contact local fire officials with questions about permitted activities.
The order requires the county judge’s signature and will be posted to county outlets. The court did not set a public hearing to rescind the ban before the 90-day window; any change would be announced in a subsequent meeting or by the judge’s office.
