Housing advisory board seeks $55,000 to fund county housing coordinator position

Don Conklin, speaking for the Housing Advisory Board, asked commissioners to fund a housing coordinator position at $55,000 — the same amount the board received in prior years — to sustain project work including management of a CDBG grant and local housing initiatives.
Conklin said the board is a volunteer group and that a staffed coordinator has enabled grant development and project management. Jim Jarvis, described in the meeting as the housing coordinator, was noted as continuing project work such as the Twin Bridges four-rivers forplex and CDBG activities.
Commissioners noted that because this is a new contract arrangement the county must issue a request for proposals (RFP). They asked staff to place an RFP approval on next Tuesday’s agenda so the county can solicit proposals and then consider funding based on responses.
No funding decision was made in the work session; the procedural step agreed was to publish an RFP and bring results back to the commissioners for award consideration.
