Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority invites Madison County to join; commissioners to consider resolution

He emphasized potential community benefits, saying passenger rail can improve safety and rural connectivity and support workforce and economic development.
When a property owner asked about public involvement and environmental impacts, Bucks said board and committee meetings are open and that the authority prioritizes community engagement in route planning. "All of the meetings of the Big Sky passenger rail board ... are open and open to public participation," he said.
Bucks and Peterson told commissioners there is no required financial contribution to join; the authority may seek voluntary contributions and private funds for community engagement. Commissioners agreed to place the matter on the next Tuesday agenda so the board can consider passing the joining resolution.
The briefing did not commit Madison County to fund any specific projects; commissioners asked staff to schedule the resolution for a future meeting and to obtain additional information on any requested voluntary contributions.
