The Ocean City Board of Education voted to approve a superintendent contract and introduced Dr. Brian Latas as the district’s next superintendent. The motion to approve the contract proceeded by roll call and the board recorded 'Yes' votes from the participating trustees; the motion carried.
Dr. Brian Latas addressed the board after the vote, thanking trustees for their trust and praising the district and its staff. "I’m truly honored and excited to join the Red Raider community," Dr. Latas said. He thanked board leaders (including board president Kevin Barnes and vice president Chris Holidayiday) and outgoing superintendent Dr. Christian Angelo, and said he looked forward to building relationships with students, staff and families during the transition.
The board earlier paid extended tribute to Dr. Christian Angelo, recognizing more than three decades in education and the leadership he provided to the district. Remarks noted Dr. Angelo’s record as a classroom teacher, principal and superintendent and the state recognition his work brought to schools he led.
The board’s action completes the hiring step recorded in the meeting; the administration will proceed with transition steps and contract finalization as appropriate.
