Strafford County proclaims May as ALS Awareness Month
Summary
The Strafford County Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation declaring May as ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) Awareness Month after receiving a request from a resident; the county seal will be affixed to the proclamation and returned to the requester.
The Strafford County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted April 23 to proclaim May as ALS Awareness Month.
The chair said the request came via email from resident Luke Haidok and described ALS as a progressive neurological disease that gradually robs people of the ability to walk, speak and breathe. The board approved placing the Strafford County seal on the proclamation and returning it to Haidok.
The proclamation was moved and seconded and passed by unanimous voice vote. The declaration does not create new county programs; commissioners said it is intended to raise awareness of ALS and acknowledge local residents and families affected by the disease.
The board continued with scheduled business after the vote.
