Newton County court backs resolution supporting I-14 corridor funding

Newton County Commissioners Court voted on Sept. 17 to approve a resolution supporting the federal multi-state future interstate highway formula funding program and backing the development of the I-14 corridor through the Bville area of Newton County.

The presiding officer read the resolution at the start of the meeting, saying the formula program would create a predictable level of federal funding to develop congressionally authorized future interstates, improve freight movement and regional economic development, and enhance safety and emergency evacuation routes. "It's going to change Newton County," the presiding officer said during discussion.

Commissioners did not debate alternatives to the resolution during the meeting. A motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded; the court called the vote and approved the measure.
