The Lincoln County Commission voted on June 18 to adopt a 5% increase in base salaries for elected officials and county employees, a recommendation that emerged from the Lincoln County Compensation Board.
Commissioner Hammonds noted that deputiesand sworn officers' pay scales are tied to the sheriff's wage, meaning the action moves through several offices. The commission reviewed recent returns on an LATCF investment intended to help cover wage increases; interest income from the investment reduced the net budgetary impact. County figures read into the record estimated the total gross cost at roughly $289,390 for about 161 employees and the net impact to the general fund after the investment would be about $45,700.
Commissioners said retention and recruitment problems motivated the increase. Staff were instructed to adjust departmental budgets and schedule ongoing budget-review meetings to reconcile the pay increase with departmental proposals.
What happens next: HR will implement new pay rates and departments will undergo budget recalculations; commissioners plan to meet more frequently to review department budgets for the coming fiscal year.
