Compensation board approves 5% countywide pay increase, citing investment earnings
Summary
Lincoln County’s compensation board voted to raise elected officials, salaried staff and sheriff’s deputies by 5%, partially funded by investment interest earnings; staff said interest earnings of about $242,000 offset much of the cost but an estimated additional $70,000 may be required in the budget.

The Lincoln County Compensation Board approved a 5% across-the-board pay increase for elected officials, county salaried staff and sheriff’s deputies at the June 11 meeting.
County finance staff presented salary scenarios and noted investment earnings (roughly $242,000 reported in the meeting) that can be applied toward salary increases. Commissioners discussed past large one-time adjustments to align county pay scales with statewide comparators and acknowledged ongoing operating-cost pressures such as an 8.8% health-insurance increase and higher casualty/liability premiums.
One commissioner proposed and moved a 5% increase; a second commissioner seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote. Staff explained that without the investment earnings the county would have needed to identify additional general-fund or reserve sources; with the reported interest the incremental budget gap to reach 5% was estimated at roughly $70,000 and would be covered in the budget process.
The board instructed staff to apply the increase uniformly so that deputy and sheriff pay are not left behind, and to reflect the change in the upcoming budget documents.
