Student representatives give final reports; district honors dozens of students in music, science and scouting

Student representatives from Toms River Regional School District's three high schools delivered final monthly reports and the board paused to honor dozens of student achievements in music, science, athletics and scouting.

Ryan Mum, outgoing student representative for High School East, summarized AP testing, spring sports results and senior events and introduced his successor, Michaela Manzy. "This is Ryan Mum signing out. And as always, go Raiders," he said. Gabriella Costa and Sophia Sida delivered updates from High School North and South, respectively, noting AP and state testing, athletic accomplishments, senior prom dates and other end-of-year events.

The board recognized more than 70 elementary students selected for regional honors in chorus, band and orchestra; teachers and music facilitators read names and invited families to applaud the students. High School East students were also recognized for regional science-fair awards and for winning sustainability and research grants that will support future study. Scout achievements, including four Eagle Scout recognitions, and accomplishments for indoor percussion and band programs were acknowledged.

Superintendent Sitta and school principals offered thanks to staff and volunteers who supported students throughout the year. The awards portion concluded before the business portion of the agenda; members of the public did not speak during the allocated public comment times.

The board moved on to routine business after the recognitions.
