Dolores County approves small assistance grant and two $25,000 transfers, hires veteran services officer

Dolores County commissioners on Feb. 2 approved three resolutions and hired a veteran services officer in separate unanimous votes.
The board approved resolution number 22601 for $500 designated for cancer-treatment assistance after a clerk read the request and a commissioner moved for approval.
The board then approved resolution 02-26-02, transferring $25,000 from the general fund to the senior services fund. County staff said the transfer is intended to offset unexpectedly large reductions in state and federal funding for transportation and meal programs that support senior residents.
Commissioners next approved resolution 02-26-03, transferring $25,000 from the social services fund to senior services for the same purpose.
"This will help senior services maintain those core services for this year," one commissioner said during the motion.
Following those votes, commissioners confirmed hiring Mr. Tek John as the county veteran services officer after a recent interview process. Commissioners said the veteran services officer will coordinate medical-appointment transportation for veterans and help them navigate benefit programs.
All motions were seconded and passed by unanimous voice vote. The board did not provide roll-call tallies in the transcript; commissioners indicated unanimous approval by voice.
