CUSD 300 presents 'Together for Tomorrow' facility plan update; warns of 4,000 new students in decade

Dr. Frank Williams and Anthony McGinn presented an update on District 300's Together for Tomorrow master facility plan on April 21, describing a community engagement process that began in October 2025 and will culminate with a final report to the board tentatively scheduled for May 19.
"Together for Tomorrow focuses on three main issues: capacity, future-ready education spaces, and facility maintenance," Dr. Williams said, and staff outlined a projection of about 4,000 new students over the next 10 years — roughly enough to fill two high schools — with about 3,000 of those students expected on the district's west side.
Presenters described the district's building inventory (3.2 million square feet) and a range of identified projects across east and west sides of the district. Staff said the master facility plan will present options and recommendations to the board, not final decisions by administration, and described funding approaches that could include a mixture of cash and bonds.
The district is holding open houses April 22–23 at select elementary schools and Jacobs High School and will host a final community workshop on May 4 at Hampshire Middle School. Staff also said a phone-based random sample survey and a broader online survey will collect additional feedback; a consultant will select 300 randomly sampled phone respondents and an online survey will run tentatively April 24–May 10.
Board members were reminded that the options on the table are recommendations to the board and that the board will make any final decisions after reviewing the compiled community feedback and the consultant's final report.
