The vendor also said the Flaxville antenna removed from an old water tower had been struck by lightning and required replacement; Red Tail said the Flaxville quote already covers that antenna and the triband/console quote lets the county avoid an additional future antenna upgrade.
The motion to fund the triband antennas (the amount stated in the meeting: $345,950) was made, seconded and approved by the commissioners present. Meeting discussion indicated the work will include installing the new base (GTR) radio at the Tower Hill site, replacing a temporary antenna at Flaxville with a permanent unit, and updating the dispatch console antennas and programming. Vendor staff said both the Flaxville and GTR antennas were scheduled to arrive at their shop the day after the meeting and that, barring delivery delays, the installations and testing could be completed on the planned visit.
Commission staff asked Red Tail to provide written quotes, documentation of equipment and photographs of tower-mounted assets to clarify ownership and to support coordination with Border Patrol where access or property lines overlap. The county attorney confirmed his availability to be added to vendor email strings so legal questions and permission issues can be pursued quickly.
The approved funds are intended to cover the triband antenna equipment and console modifications; vendors and staff said no additional funding should be required for the items discussed, though the meeting recorded follow-up tasks for final cost confirmation and scheduling. Next steps include vendor arrival next week, site installs, functional testing with dispatch and any remaining programming and touch-ups before Red Tail considers the county work complete.
