Board approves advertising for two student representatives (open to juniors and seniors)

The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District board voted to advertise for two student representatives to the board and asked the policy committee to draft formal policy language.
Trustees discussed a proposed junior/senior co‑representative model and whether a junior should be required to serve both junior and senior years or simply be eligible to apply again as a senior. Current student representatives and trustees agreed the important factor is providing opportunities for more students to participate; some trustees expressed concern about the time commitment for juniors who also face rigorous coursework.
The board approved a motion to proceed with a two‑student co‑representative model and to open the application window from Feb. 23 to March 13, advertising to juniors and seniors. Trustee Sherry Jasper made the motion and a colleague seconded; the motion carried. The policy committee will draft updated policy language (0141.1) at its next meeting and return recommended language for formal board consideration.
Administrators said the process will be managed through an open application and interview process and that current student representatives will be asked for input in designing interview materials and outreach.
The board’s action is procedural — it authorizes advertising and policy drafting rather than a permanent policy change; the policy committee will present formal language for approval at a future meeting.
