South View Elementary to pilot Project Adam heart‑safe certification; district plans to scale

Mike Downey, South View health assistant, described the Project Adam requirements: placement of AEDs near gyms and gathering areas, staff training, a written cardiac response plan, signage and maintenance records. He said South View now has two AEDs (one purchased with PTO funds) and a designated cardiac‑response team. Downey explained Project Adam’s operational target: an AED hooked up and ready to deliver a shock within three minutes of a cardiac arrest.
The nurses and health assistants described steps taken to integrate AEDs into staff meetings, site‑coordinator drills and documentation. District nurses said Project Adam is being piloted at South View and, if finalized, would be extended to other schools after staff drills and certification steps are completed.
Board and administration praised the PTO’s support and the health staff’s work to make the school safer.
No formal action was taken; the presentation served as informational groundwork for districtwide planning.
