The sheriff told the board Mako inspected both jail and courthouse systems and determined the county’s cameras were “very inefficient, very outdated.” Mako secured funding to replace the jail system and offered a separate $11,315 quote to upgrade upstairs cameras so both systems would be more integrated and run on server-based hardware rather than the county’s older coaxial cabling.
Commissioners discussed compatibility concerns and compared the current offer to a prior outside bid that had higher costs and included a cloud subscription the county does not need. The sheriff said the new proposal uses power-over-Ethernet cameras and four 10-terabyte servers for storage and that, if the upstairs cameras are not upgraded, they will not be compatible with the systems installed in the jail.
A commissioner moved to enter the contract and approve the $11,315 expenditure to be paid from PILT; another commissioner seconded the motion. The board approved the motion by voice vote. Staff will proceed with contracting and incorporate the jail installation already funded by Mako.
The approval covers the upstairs courthouse and exterior cameras as described in the vendor packet; the commissioners did not approve any additional cloud subscriptions. The board recessed after the vote and returned for scheduled proclamation business.
