Facilities update: LED poles, reduced water-meter cost and elevator timeline reported to Toms River board

Facilities staff briefed the board on multiple sites and projects, including an LED lighting rebate installation, work-order performance, bid-ready capital projects, a reduced water-meter cost, a playground grant application and ongoing HVAC and elevator repairs.
The district has started LED exterior-lighting work at Silver Bay Elementary through a JCP&L rebate program with Cooper Electric; staff said there are 30 poles and that the purchase unit price was approximately $30 per pole with district crews performing installation.
On infrastructure costs, staff said an earlier estimate of about $65,000 to connect a water meter at High School South was negotiated down to roughly $12,000 and that the connection work is done. "We got it down to 12 grand and it's done," a facilities speaker said.
Facilities reported 485 work-order requests and 532 completions in the reported period; staff also described re-roofing dugouts at High School East and summer bid plans for switch-gear replacement and boiler work pending bid results.
Board members raised HVAC concerns and thermostat communication problems between the building graphics page and thermostats; facilities staff said they are performing in-house fixes while working with the software vendor and tracking issues discovered during referendum projects with contractors and legal counsel.
Regarding accessibility, staff said the South River Elementary elevator is expected to be completed by early summer and that interim accommodations are in place to ensure students requiring first-floor access have appropriate options.
The board opened the public-comment period but no members of the public spoke.
