The Strafford County Legislative Delegation voted on Oct. 23 to accept a FY 2024 COPS technology grant of $715,000 and approved a supplemental appropriation to support radio equipment purchases for towns and county patrols.
County staff said the grant notice arrived recently and that staff will contact municipalities to determine local equipment needs before distributing funds. "We just received notice of the grant last week ... we are in the process of reaching out to cities and towns to determine their needs and then we'll distribute the $715,000," a county official said.
Members said improved radio coverage is a priority for towns that lack reliable signals outside patrol vehicles, noting public‑safety benefits for officers working away from their cars. The delegation approved the revenue increase and the supplemental appropriation by voice/roll votes and directed county staff to manage distribution and report back on procurement plans.
