District to pilot new AP Biology text with Bedford, Freeman & Worth next year

Adrian Gold, director of secondary curriculum, described a planned AP Biology textbook pilot for next school year using materials from Bedford, Freeman & Worth. Teachers at the district’s three high schools selected the new texts after noting the current McGraw Hill material is older and less closely aligned with recent College Board expectations.
The pilot will run from September through May with teacher training provided in June by the publisher. District staff secured 25 hard-copy textbooks for each building and digital access for students; the current McGraw Hill texts have been extended through the end of September to avoid disrupting summer assignments while teachers learn the new materials. Gold said the new resources include online labs, practice exams and more hands-on data-analysis exercises that align with the revised AP Biology syllabus.
Committee members asked whether materials were digital-only; Gold confirmed the district is providing both hard copies and digital access, plus workbooks. The presentation concluded with committee members expressing support for the pilot.
