Daniels County to advertise 10-hour tobacco-education post; library security grant approved for partial work

Daniels County commissioners on Dec. 16 authorized staff to advertise a 10-hours-per-week tobacco-education specialist position and accepted a Beacon grant to fully fund a library security upgrade, including an immediate request to cover half the materials cost.
Taylor, who said the position would be 10 hours a week and tied to the county’s chronic-disease task order, asked permission to advertise locally and in the paper. "They're going to be working 10 hours so no matter what they do, they're only working the 10 hours," Taylor said while explaining the state-funded deliverables and the county’s intent to contract with Roosevelt County when necessary. The commission voted to proceed with advertising; the motion passed unanimously.
Arlene Kley told the board the library's Beacon grant will cover the security system "in full" and that the library needed direction on handling a requested half-upfront payment for materials. She said the library would use its account to process claims and the grant would reimburse the county for the balance. Commissioners confirmed the library account will process purchases and the grant will cover remaining costs.
The board also discussed allowing small, family-friendly private gatherings during library hours. Commissioners asked staff to check occupancy limits with the fire department and consider posted rules for any such reservations.
The motion to advertise the tobacco-education post and to proceed with the Beacon-funded security equipment was passed by voice vote with no opposition. County staff will prepare the job advertisement for a five-day local posting and a paper notice, and will follow up on the library’s invoicing and occupancy/fire-code questions.
