DuBois recognizes YMCA staff, bystanders and first responders for lifesaving response

The DuBois City Council read and adopted a citation on June 3 recognizing YMCA staff, members, bystanders and emergency personnel for their coordinated lifesaving response after a DuBois YMCA member collapsed on April 11.
Mayor J. Barry Abbott read the proclamation, which said that YMCA staff and nearby community members administered CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED) before ambulance personnel arrived, and that the member showed signs of recovery within minutes. The proclamation named the YMCA member, Steven James, credited YMCA employees (including Elaine Cost and Cara Miner) and named community responders and Doosan ambulance personnel acknowledged in the incident report.
Scott Frano, the YMCA director, thanked staff and volunteers and praised the facility’s preparedness and training. Steven James, the member who was recognized, said simply, “These guys saved my life,” and urged wider CPR training and AED availability.
The council’s formal recognition thanked the responders for teamwork and professional care and extended the city’s best wishes for James’s continued recovery.
