Lincoln County appoints eight to DUI task force, names Kelsey Jean Meyer coordinator

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 28 approved eight applicants to re‑establish the county DUI task force and appointed Kelsey Jean Meyer as the task force coordinator based on the planning committee’s recommendation.
Staff told the board the DUI task force had been operating inconsistently after coordinator Cindy Fuller resigned, and state best‑practice guidance recommended a formal application and appointment process so membership and voting authority are established by the commission. "DUI is a huge issue in Lincoln County," staff said, noting deputies and troopers are making multiple arrests daily and the task force helps provide funds for extra enforcement shifts, training and education.
The applicants the board reviewed included law enforcement and victim‑services representatives: Travis Miller, chief of police for the city of Troy; Chief Urkin, chief of police for the city of Libby; Katie Davis, treatment court coordinator; Kelsey Jean Meyer, victim‑witness program (applicant for coordinator); Andy Horton, sergeant with the Montana Highway Patrol; O'Neal (county attorney's office); and Kathleen Sheffield, victim‑witness advocate. The board voted to approve the full slate and subsequently voted to appoint Meyer as coordinator; commissioners also asked the new coordinator and committee to prepare an updated coordinator contract for future approval.
Commissioners said they generally defer to committee recommendations for board appointments unless a controversy is raised, and staff will publish appointment notifications and next steps for the task force.
