Lincoln County commissioners voted Dec. 10 to approve a $500,000 PILT loan to the Bull Lake Rural Fire District to complete construction of a new fire station.
Commissioners discussed the project’s history — donated land, volunteer labor, donated equipment and progress to date — and said the district has returned local economic benefit through contracted wildland firefighting revenues. The proposed amortization schedule calls for five annual payments at 2% interest; the district asked to have payments due in December, citing timing of wildland-fire reimbursements.
A motion to approve the loan on the proposed payment schedule passed by voice vote. County staff said they will prepare a contract using an existing PILT loan template, coordinate with the fire district’s point of contact and issue a check for deposit once the contract is executed.
Commissioners and the district emphasized that the new station will improve reliability and provide a local resource center for the community; the board also noted that loans preserve PILT funds while allowing the district to proceed with construction.
