The Lincoln County commissioners approved a 30-day extension Oct. 15 for the Northstar Landing subdivision's preliminary-plat approval to allow the developer to finish septic drain-field sand cover and final road graveling.
Planning staff told commissioners the project received preliminary approval in 2017, followed by extensions in 2020 and 2023; the most recent deadline expired in July and the developer requested an additional 30 days. County sanitarian staff conducted a site visit the week of Oct. 6 and reported that the community septic system passed the 'squirt test' and tanks are installed; final septic permitting awaits completion of the sand cover.
Staff recommended the short extension under Montana statute (Title 76, Ch. 3, §610) allowing governing bodies to grant mutually agreed extensions. Commissioners discussed the practical need for the extension, construction scheduling constraints and the developer's confidence that the work can be finished within the window. The motion to extend was approved; staff noted the extension is subject to payment of the extension fee.
