Public hearing held on Eureka Fire Service Area boundary changes; next hearing set Sept. 17

Commissioners opened the first public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Eureka Fire Service Area boundaries (Resolution 2025-27). Staff said boundary changes respond to new housing; maps for three proposed expansion areas were posted and the board heard only a fire department representative before closing the hearing.
The Lincoln County commissioners opened the first of two required public hearings Aug. 20 on a proposed amendment to the Eureka Fire Service Area boundary (Resolution 2025-27).
Staff explained that the service area boundaries were set when there were few or no houses in some areas and that recent development requires boundary adjustments to ensure coverage. The three proposed expansion areas (upper Pinkham Creek, Douglas Hill Road and Phil's Lake) were posted in the annex for public review.
The board received no public comments apart from a representative of the local fire department who attended in person. Commissioners closed the hearing and set the second required hearing for Sept. 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Lincoln County Annex.
Next steps: Staff will continue outreach and post materials; the board will reconvene for the second hearing and any subsequent decision on the proposed boundary amendment.
