At its Feb. 17 meeting Eastpointe City Council approved a series of administrative and operational items aimed at continuing city services and updating codes and policies.
Extension of sewer contract: Council voted to extend the 2022 sanitary sewer open‑cut repair contract with Fontana Construction to include the 2025–2026 program covering 11 critical locations, in the amount of $371,980, and authorized the city manager to execute the necessary documents. The motion passed on a roll call with unanimous support.
Contract inspectors and Roseville agreement: Council authorized administration to use independent trade inspectors for electrical, mechanical and plumbing inspections and plan reviews, and to end the shared services agreement with the city of Roseville. Supporters said this creates cost savings and secures qualified inspectors locally.
MOU and policy items: Council approved a memorandum of understanding to participate in the Southeast Michigan Recast leaders cohort (in partnership with Recast City and the Michigan Municipal League) and gave first reading to ordinance 26‑1255 adopting the 2021 edition of the International Property Maintenance Code, scheduling second reading for March 3. The council also adopted an Americans with Disabilities Act remote‑participation policy that will allow remote public comment via Zoom or similar platforms with operational safeguards (posting on the city website and rules for muting/unmuting).
Paying city bills: The council approved payment of city bills totaling $3,814,437.59 as presented in the meeting packet.
Votes and next steps: These administrative items were approved by roll call votes (most unanimously). Staff were directed to publish required notices where applicable, route agreements to the city manager for signature, and return with final language for the IPMC second reading on March 3.
