Committee reports several bills on airports and DMR staffing; includes amendment on P3 bill

Senate Bill 2370 (from the Mississippi Airport Association) would allow airport authorities to use the same abandoned-vehicle removal process available to municipalities and private property owners to clear long-abandoned vehicles from airport property. Sponsor said the bill aligns airport authority procedures with existing municipal abandonment processes; the committee voted to report the bill.
Senate Bill 2618 would permit airport authorities to enter public–private partnership (P3) arrangements for property wholly controlled by an airport authority. Senator Seymour offered and the committee adopted a reverse-repealer amendment to pause a permanent change while the committee studies additional examples and safeguards; the chairman noted any P3 arrangements must still comply with federal (FAA) operational requirements. The committee passed a committee substitute and reported the item out by voice vote.
Senate Bill 2634 would authorize the Department of Marine Resources to establish and pay reserve officers during special events, create a fund for that purpose, and set qualification standards similar to other reserve programs. The sponsor said the measure addresses critical staffing shortages for holiday and other high-demand events; the committee reported the bill out.
