Committee approves procurement flexibility and roof repairs for Kansas State School for the Blind

For FY2027 the House K-12 Education budget committee approved restoring roof-replacement and rehab/repair funding that a special committee had deleted. The committee also required a report to both education committees and the appropriations/ways-and-means committees before Jan. 11, 2027, documenting how procurement adjustments worked and how repairs proceeded. A committee note also said state financial support for the school should be recognized as an appropriation for special-education services when legislators deliberate special-education funding, but staff clarified it does not change existing KSDE reimbursement formulas.
Committee members described the procurement change as a pragmatic fix tied to specialized school needs and approved the budget recommendations for the school for FY2026–27.
