YERINGTON, Nev. — The Yerington City Council on Jan. 26 debated Bill No. 434, an ordinance to add an "OFF HIGHWAY VEHICLES" chapter to the municipal code, but the measure was tabled for further review after councilmembers raised questions about route designations and state review.
Councilman Matt Galvin expressed concern about the proposed route on Goldfield Avenue and whether the Nevada Department of Transportation had been consulted. "I suggested we table this until the first meeting in February," Galvin said during deliberations. Councilman Nick Beaton and others echoed the need to confirm NDOT concurrence before final action.
City Attorney Charles Zumpft said he had not yet seen the packet materials and wanted to compare the draft to prior proposals, and Interim City Manager Jerry Bryant said the next step would be to bring the proposal to NDOT. A motion to accept the ordinance failed to receive a second and the item was recorded as tabled.
Scott Draper, chief of Mason Valley Fire Department, urged the council to move forward, noting there had already been two public hearings: Draper said he did not understand why passage was being delayed and described the ordinance as a "simple code" that should be adopted.
The council did not schedule a final vote and directed staff to coordinate with NDOT and return with additional information and potentially revised routing recommendations.
