The Alexandria City Council took a number of routine actions June 2 under its consent calendar, approving introductions and final adoptions of ordinances and resolutions to renew contracts, advertise for bids and enter professional services agreements.
Items approved included introductions or renewals for janitorial supplies, natural gas welding services (re-advertised where no bids were received), contract renewals with vendors providing environmental engineering and landscape maintenance services (Terracon, Taylor Scapes, Taylor's Gates, US Lawns and others), and authorization to advertise for vehicle bids. Council also approved a resolution authorizing submission of the CAPER (covered separately).
Speakers emphasized shopping local when practicable during procurement decisions. Public commenters urged the council to prioritize local vendors for police uniforms and vehicle contracts. All consent and routine procurement motions on the record passed by voice vote without substantive amendment.
Council members and staff agreed to re-advertise any items lacking bids and to return procurement details as required by procurement rules.
