The Seaside Library Friends & Foundation reported increased membership and reviewed a jointly held author event that drew mixed reactions.
The chair said the friends’ membership grew from 28 to about 35 after a membership meeting held in coordination with the George Decay event. The board also conducted elections that kept current officers in place and distributed memberships, book bags and coupons to attendees.
Members offered blunt feedback about the author presentation. The chair described attendance as lower than expected and criticized the interviewer approach, saying, "They were terrible interviewers." Other board members said the session was awkward for a live audience and faulted staging and moderation, though they praised the author's memory and expressed appreciation that the event would be posted to YouTube.
Board members said the friends group had sponsored refreshments and a bookstore presence. No formal action was recorded regarding changes to event planning beyond these critiques; the friends will continue membership outreach and consider adjustments to interview format for future speakers.
