"This debate about pickleball is not silly," Sharon said, citing RCW language about public nuisance and disturbance. She described repeated daytime play, direct sightlines into yards, and alleged incidents of urination and defecation near neighboring properties, and asked the council to find ways to mitigate the noise and the conduct.
After Sharon’s three‑minute public comment, the mayor offered a point of information: he said he had ordered a sanitary can be placed at Rainier Trails Park following a resident’s video that allegedly showed a player exposing themselves. The mayor said he acted as the executive branch and used city staff to place the unit, noting he did not seek prior budget authority for the limited action.
The council did not adopt an enforcement action or new ordinance at the meeting. The mayor said additional temporary sanitary units could be placed at other parks if council wishes and staff will address future complaints through existing channels.
