Fairview commissioners approve Veterans Park donation, mowing contract and ARPA stormwater amendment; budget workshop set

The Fairview Board of Commissioners on June 4 approved three new business resolutions and several consent items, and set final budget review dates.
The commission accepted a $33,625 gift to Veterans Memorial Park funded in part by a $20,000 Ascension Saint Thomas grant and $13,625 from the American Legion (Resolution 33‑26). David Dodaro of the American Legion said the project will install a roughly 40‑foot paver knee wall and would be managed by the donor with city review. Dodaro said the Ascension grant requires a progress report and could be recalled if project milestones are not met.
The board also awarded the mowing and trimming contract to Greenway LLC (low bidder Jerry Cox) (Resolution 32‑26) and approved an amendment to the ARPA stormwater contract to add a $438,550 project on Cumberland Drive, increasing the total contract to $1,995,000 of a $2,000,000 allocation (Resolution 34‑26). City staff said using the additional ARPA funds will largely exhaust the program’s available balance but will address pressing drainage needs on Cumberland Drive.
Mayor (chair) announced a public budget workshop for June 11 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a public hearing and second reading of the budget on June 18 at 7:00 p.m. “We will be having a workshop that is open to the public on June 11, Thursday, June 11 at 6PM to go over additional items,” the mayor said, urging residents to review materials before the hearing.
Votes at a glance: all listed items passed unanimously, 5–0. Commissioners recorded as voting aye were Commissioner Roberts, Commissioner Hall, Commissioner Buffalini, Vice‑Mayor McDonald and Mayor Anderson.
The city manager said staff will coordinate with donors and contractors to ensure work meets city standards and to satisfy grant reporting requirements. The commission adjourned following roundtable remarks and community announcements.
