The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Flowood on Jan. 5 approved a variance allowing the lot at 400 Liberty Court to increase its maximum building coverage from 25.00% to 28.66% to permit an addition of about 5,000 square feet.
Mike Prestage, the city building official, explained the addition would push the parcel’s density above the 25% limit and therefore required a variance. Architect David Crumley and contractor Coleman Hammons attended the hearing on behalf of the applicant; the minutes record that no one appeared in opposition.
Alderman Donald Flynt made the motion to grant the variance; Alderman Kirk McDaniel seconded. The motion received unanimous approval from the board members present.
The public hearing was opened and closed during the Jan. 5 session, after which the board voted to permit the increased coverage so the project can proceed.
