Visit Gloucester presented an outreach plan June 2 to send staff and host a three‑day familiarization (FAM) tour tied to the TBEX travel‑creator conference. Hunter LeClaire said the county is participating as a premier destination sponsor; the sponsorship and registrations are paid by a grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation and Visit Gloucester will send two staff members to the conference.
LeClaire described the FAM tour, "Oysters in Old Virginia," which will host four content creators selected competitively across the state. The itinerary includes historic properties, an educational boat tour with Matheson Oyster Company, visits to the Gloucester Arts Festival and local dining partners, and partner‑provided lodging and meals. LeClaire said the county's direct cash cost is about $450 (staff time plus $150 in marketing materials and a $300 payment to Matheson Oyster Company), while participating businesses are contributing nearly $3,000 in-kind.
The board expressed support and thanked Visit Gloucester for the outreach work; staff said the effort leverages the state's 250th anniversary attention to promote visitation and local businesses.
