Board approves personnel changes, summer hires, playground purchase and student trip

The Cleburne County Board of Education on May 4, 2026, approved a package of routine and programmatic items, including personnel actions, summer program hires, a playground purchase and a CCHS field trip to the FCCLA National Conference.
The board approved the consent agenda covering the meeting agenda, previous meeting minutes and monthly financial reports. Motions and votes on personnel items included approval of the pink slip listing submitted by principals and administrators, acceptance of multiple resignations and retirements (including LeAnne Hornsby, Sandra Roberts, Debbie Holt, Rhonda Blissitt and others with effective dates, several on June 1, 2026), and approval of summer employment lists: nine certified teachers for Summer Learning K–5 (job posting 51-25-26) and eight summer student workers (job posting 55-25-26). All these personnel motions were recorded as unanimously approved.
The board approved participation in the Summer Feeding bid awarded on behalf of the Alabama Summer Meals Cooperative by Elmore County and approved three summer feeding CNP worker hires (Christie Wainwright, Patricia Garvin, Haley Freeman; job posting 58-25-26). The board also approved a CCHS field trip to the FCCLA National Conference in Washington, D.C., July 4–11, 2026.
A purchase and installation of a playground structure at CCES from Play and Park Structures was approved using the Omnia Partners Public Sector Contract #R220202 for $76,782.64. The motion was made by Jay Grubbs and seconded by Jerimy Bryant and recorded as unanimously approved.
The board approved a leave of absence for Lauren Harris (RHS teacher) for the 2026–2027 school year; minutes note this will be her second year of leave. Superintendent David Howle recognized the child nutrition program (CNP) pass-through, announced that service dog Juice at CCMS has been awarded training through Service Dogs of Alabama, and named Jennifer Swafford as the 2025–2026 Acts of Service Winner with Peer Helpers. The board adjourned with no further business; the next meeting is scheduled for June 1, 2026, at RES.
