Levy County labels $5M Big Dock repair figure a worst‑case placeholder pending tests

"Tom and Matt have been working with [Kissinger Campo Associates], the engineers who did the repairs on the dock... they gave them the 5,000,000 as worst case scenario," a county staff member said, explaining the figure was supplied as an initial planning estimate.
Tom Strom, county engineer, said the $5 million number was a placeholder until the evaluation is complete: "That 5,000,000 estimate... that's kind of a placeholder at this point until they're able to go out and do the evaluation," he said, adding that the figure should be narrowed after the testing and that insurance might cover portions of the work.
Staff said they will report back with the evaluation results, indicating the board may remove or adjust the placeholder amount once the engineering assessment and any insurance decisions are final.
