Those items passed on voice votes.
Legal and property matters: County counsel reported that a private lessee of the Massey Building may not be meeting financial lease obligations and asked permission to draft a letter seeking compliance or to potentially terminate the lease. The attorney also reported receiving an unsolicited offer for county‑owned land and will brief commissioners individually while staff develops a policy to govern future offers and sales.
Property and housing: Commissioners asked for a full inventory of county‑owned properties and their permitted uses, and discussed options that would preserve affordability — including giving first option to heirs or to nearby community residents before selling parcels externally. The board acknowledged a June 13 housing symposium addressing heirs property, taxes and insurance that staff and partners are organizing.
Community events and initiatives: The county administrator announced a June 25 groundbreaking for the Cowan Library expansion and staff described a June 30 drought and farm‑bill resource summit at UF/IFAS for farmers; registration information will be posted on county channels.
Workshop scheduling: The administrator said staff will hold a budget workshop next Tuesday featuring a mandatory 10% cut exercise to help prepare for potential state changes to property‑tax policy; the board agreed to hold the meeting at 5:00 p.m.
The board approved staff recommendations on the presented items and adjourned the meeting.
