The City of Greensboro used its weekly flash briefing to highlight several upcoming community events and to announce the Greensboro Fire Department’s Fire Citizens Academy.
The presenter said the Fire Citizens Academy is an eight-week program meeting Thursdays from July 23 through Sept. 10, each session from 6 to 8:30 p.m., designed to give community members a behind-the-scenes look at operations, training and daily responsibilities of the department; registration was described as open now and the city website was given for sign-up information.
Dave, who introduced the segment of special events, promoted multiple free and family-friendly activities: First Responder Friday at Barber Park on June 12 with emergency vehicle tours and safety demos; a World Cup watch party at LeBauer Park on June 12 to see Team USA vs. Paraguay with big screens and local food trucks; a therapy-dog reading session June 14 at the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library for children in grades K–5 to practice reading aloud in 15-minute sessions; and the Music for a Sunday Evening series at Lindley Park on June 14 featuring the Greensboro Big Band.
The briefing provided web addresses and organizational contacts for registration and additional event details but did not supply attendance limits, registration deadlines, or any associated program fees in the broadcast. The presenter encouraged listeners to follow city social media and the FYI Weekly program for more in-depth coverage.
