John Tarbet, representing the applicant for 7 Chauncey Close, told the Zoning Board of Appeals that the property owner had installed a kayak rack, an above-ground hot tub and a fire pit, and was seeking variances and a wetlands permit to legalize those features. Tarbet said he had surveys showing the kayak rack would be moved outside the scenic easement.
Village representative Billy Hajek told the board the scenic easement generally prohibits structures and recommended that the kayak rack be documented by a survey in its proposed location outside the easement. "As far as I know, the scenic easement prohibits structures," Hajek said, adding that moving the rack outside the easement would remove the need to renotice the project.
The board discussed the age of the site improvements and whether the hot tub and fire pit had been installed without permits; members said they would inspect the hot tub and fire pit and asked the applicant to submit an updated survey showing the rack's location. The board kept the hearing open pending those submissions and a site visit.
Next steps: applicant to submit the revised survey and the board plans a site inspection before further action.
