Norton City Council adopts proclamations recognizing Police, EMS and Public Works weeks

City Manager Jeffery A. Shupe presented three resolutions Tuesday asking council to recognize front-line public safety and infrastructure staff.
Council adopted a resolution declaring May 10–16, 2026, as National Police Week in the City of Norton. Shupe said the police department will receive a copy of the resolution, there will be special recognition, and meals will be provided to department members.
Shupe then presented a resolution declaring May 17–23 as National Emergency Medical Services Week, noting Norton Rescue Squad personnel and Todd Lagow, who serves as Norton Fire Chief and chief operating officer of the rescue squad, were present. "National EMS Week provides an opportunity to honor the dedicated EMS professionals who serve as frontline responders," Shupe said.
A third resolution recognized May 17–23 as National Public Works Week; Public Works Director Steve McElroy and department employees were in attendance and Mayor Joseph Fawbush and Councilman Robert Fultz praised Public Works for maintaining transportation, utilities and safety infrastructure.
All three resolutions were adopted unanimously (YES — Jones, Salyers, Fultz and Fawbush; ABSENT — Caruso). The city said it would present the resolutions to the respective departments and acknowledge staff contributions.
